How to improve Tennis Doubles Strategies:
I would like to share with you my experience in Tennis Double Play as follows:
(1) Try to play with someone you like and who does not criticize you after a bad shot and
whose strengths compensate your weaknesses.
(2) Accept you role as part of a team; don’t try to dominate the match.
(3) Always communicate with your partner.
(4) Protect the middle more than the alleys in double.
(5) Control your emotions; Eyes on the ball.
(6) Prepare for each point with a game plan – Before you ever step up to the line to
serve or receive you should know what you’d like to do, have an idea of what you
want to do with the ball.
(7) Remember that you can Increase the pace of your game, Hit with
consistent Depth on your shots & Use tight concentration and tremendous speed
to maintain an edge over the opponents.
(8) I believe that effective doubles players often win with good serves, volleys, and
smashes. Forehands and backhands from the baseline should be used as a means of
getting into position to win points with more forceful shots.
(9) For Serves, placing the ball in specific locations becomes more important in doubles.
Once you figure out where the other players are weak or which spots on the court they leave open,
it is important to be able to hit those spots. The main objective is to get the ball in play, but putting
it into play and in the right places will make things easier for you and your partner.
(10) As to Volleys, can serve to specific spots in the service courts and follow those serves with
volleys. On the serve return, if you can chip the ball short or drive it crosscourt and deep,
then follow your shot to the net, your team can finish the point with strong volleys.
(11) Smash, if the other team figures out that either you or your partner cannot hit winning smashes,
watch out! It is because every serving point begins with one player at the net and that person
will be tested early to see what happens on a lob to that side.
The idea in doubles is to take the net away from the other team as early in a point as possible
and that strategy will not work if you cannot finish the point with a winning smash.
Hope you find the above useful and most importantly do enjoy the game!
